A drama-thriller that tells the story of a deportee who never existed. It spins the tale of the life of a man who, for years, was able to keep telling a lie in the public eye, and even to his own family. It was a lie that’s difficult to make up: that he had been a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. Indeed, Enric Marco Batlle (1921-2020) was a Spanish trade unionist who served as secretary-general of the National Confederation of Labor (CNT) and as the president of the Amical de Mauthausen association in Spain. During his time at the head of this association, he gave a large number of talks, chiefly in educational institutions, about his alleged life as a survivor of the Nazis, replete with anecdotes and tiny details; however, in 2005, he courted international infamy after a report by historian and researcher Benito Bermejo (who specialises in studying Spaniards who were deported to concentration camps) discovered that he had falsified information in his biography so as to appear as a survivor of the Nazi extermination camp in Flossenbürg. Despite this, he never apologised for the hoax.

A bit of color for once, all the better to see the red flags with, not to mention the obvious aerial file footage of Warsaw. The story concerns Jozef Malesa, the mason or bricklayer of the title. He was once the darling of the party, the son of two old party activists, a worker of heroic reputation, his own commitment to The Movement unquestioned. He was chosen to be destined for great things, specially educated and pushed forward to positions of responsibility in the Party. Eventually he decides, because of the ethical pressures which he feels from the obstructionism of the bureaucracy from above, he asks to return to be a simple bricklayer. He is disturbed with the way the Party deals with people, especially their lack of direct contact. He thinks workers know better than the leadership many times but that's not the way power flows. He is uncomfortable with the compromises to his idealism. He remains committed to social justice and joins his friends for the May Day rally where his comfort and confidence in his place in society cause him to defer to no man, certainly no rat faced men in overcoats with red armbands. His great pleasure in life moreover is laying brick. He finds the work satisfying and fulfilling which is why he was such an obviously superior worker in the first place.

Not willing to negotiate the black market for religious artifacts by himself, Ahmet turns to Cengiz (Mustafa Uzunyilmaz), a feared man in local organized crime circles, who says he can help them find a good price for the rare Koran. However, as Selim and Ahmet work more closely with Cengiz and his underlings, they're drawn deeper into a web of criminal behavior that they can't easily escape. Nokta (aka Dot) received its North American premiere at the 2008 Toronto World Film Festival.

With the clue of a bottle of ink purchased by the dead woman shortly before her death, Poirot searches Mrs. McGinty's belongings and finds an edition of The Sunday Comet newspaper, where an article concerning two women connected with famous murders has been cut out. With the story are two photographs of the women. Poirot discovers that Mrs. McGinty had seen one of the photographs before, and knew to whom it belonged to. But which woman was this case connected with? Are any of the people living in Broadhinny related to these women, as one of their children? Or perhaps one of them is one of the actual women? The puzzle pieces begin to fit in, especially after Poirot is shoved into the path of an oncoming train by an unknown entity. But will the murderer strike again?
